Temaniak Silver-K: Free Novation K-Station Emulator Plugin
Developer Temaniak has released Silver-K, a free Novation K-Station emulator plugin that models the classic early-2000s British virtual analog hardware synthesizer for macOS and Windows.
Built on the open-source Gearmulator framework—the same core engine underpinning the DSP56300 emulation project—Silver-K faithfully executes the original Motorola DSP code to deliver authentic hardware sound in modern DAWs.
Emulating the Classic Novation Engine
Silver-K provides full access to the complete 8-voice K-Station architecture. Each voice features three multi-wave oscillators equipped with pulse-width modulation (PWM), frequency modulation (FM), oscillator sync, and unison detune capabilities alongside an independent noise generator.
The audio path flows into a resonant low-pass filter with selectable 12 dB/oct and 24 dB/oct slopes. Extensive sound shaping is managed via two dedicated ADSR envelopes for amplitude and filter modulation, along with two syncable LFOs offering sample-and-hold waveforms. The plugin also reproduces the integrated hardware multi-effects processor, containing stereo delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, and the signature 12-band vocoder.
Hardware ROM Requirements
Because Silver-K functions as a hardware-level DSP emulator, the software does not bundle proprietary code from Novation. Users must provide an authentic K-Station or KS series firmware ROM file by placing it into the designated plugin directory on first boot.
Silver-K is available for 64-bit Windows and macOS in VST3 and AU formats, as well as a standalone desktop application.
